Kanye West, some rappist that I have never heard of has caused controversy by attacking President George W Bush's handling of the New Orleans crisis live on American television.
The rapper-producer was taking part in a telethon for the victims of Hurricane Katrina when he spoke out about the treatment black people in the disaster. Good on him for offering his time. All people of New Orleans need assistance and help at this time.
"I hate the way they treat us in the media, when you see a black family it says they're looting when you see a white family it says they're looking for food," said West before personally targeting the President...
Well it is unfortunate that most of the poor people in New Orleans happen to be black, and choose to stay in the area. Anyone with the ability too left the area upon being asked / ordered too go. If it happens that when the tv cameras are rolling that the only people looting are black people, that means one of two things. Either they are the only people looting, or the cameras happen to be in the worse hit area which may be a black neighbourhood. In either case.... What person in their right mind is going to loot a store in front of a live news camera? Idiocy. This is not George Bush's fault. Have a go at the tv stations that are filming the news Kanye and keep your mouth shut.
"George Bush doesn't care about black people," he declared adding that America is set up "to help the poor, the black people, the less well-off as slow as possible", Billboard reports. Another load of crap. America was not 100% set up for anything like this. It is not the Presidents fault, the National Guard and the Governors of the respective states were first on hand. George has fast tracked funding, offered support and pledged further assistance. He is not such a figure that he can physically stop a hurricane.... Kanye smarten up.
West then praised the Red Cross’ efforts saying they were doing “everything they can”.
NBC, the network that aired the programme, quickly distanced itself from West, declaring he had “departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him”, while some American commentators attacked his comments.
Sounds like this know it all rapper needs to hop on a plane and go to the area and volunteer to help. George has been there 3 or 4 times this week.
It is always easy to pull a Mike Moore and critisize the authorities, but when it comes to doing something useful Kanye needs to use as much of the brainpower that he has to do something positive. Have some respect Kanye.

I think Kanye has a point actually. Why wasn't the response time quick like it was in Florida a year earlier when Hurricanes hit some areas of that state? That's right, it wasn't his borther's state and it was a election year. Also, even the most red meat eating, Rush Limbaugh loving, I love my gun republican has to admit that there is a slight problem with the media saying that black people were "looting" and that white people were "finding food". Personally, if I was trying to survive, I wouldn't care if Oprah Winfrey was there with a camera crew filming it to be totally honest.
Was George in New Orleans three times this week? Not sure about that, but he came like five days too late. Gutting FEMA and hiring two inept boobs to run it might add to the fact that we were "not 100% set up for anything like this."
Kanye West is the guy who has the number one record in the country right now.
There is a difference between getting food for you and your family to survive, and getting a new tv, some cd's, a bottle of jack and some ammo for your guns for free...
It doesnt matter who Kanye is...He needs to be responsible with his publicity. He has not helped the cause at all by his STUPID comments.
It is an unfortunate situation for EVERYONE.... Is there anything positive that Kanye West did by making those comments....?
But people who were getting food for their families were still considered "looting" so that line is blurred just a bit. The POSITIVE thing that I feel came out of his statement was the awareness of people to the poverty issue we have in this country.(The poverty rate is going up by the way.)
He also, in my opinion. expressed the sentiments felt by many african americans in this country. But you know what, I was thinking, maybe it's not black folks that bush doesn't care about, maybe it's poor people in general.
Another good thing is that it forced people on the right, even if they don't do anything but apologize for Bush, to talk about the issue as well. You said yourself that you didn't know who he was until he said what he said.
(*Reminder* I in no way think I'm going to sway your opinion, just having a healty discussion on the matter. I say that because like you, I have strong opinions, and hate when some clown goes on my blog just to talk sh*t. But then again 99% of the people who do that do it anonymously..lol)
Well it appears that towns and cities with more money eg: Beverly Hills vs Compton etc, have better provisions. If the property prices are low and the residents don't earn as much as other towns then it is hard to have the income for the town / city. Therefore they are not prepared, or unable to be prepared. It is unfortunate that the hurricane hit many areas that were not prepared. The govt is / was not prepared for this, neither were the residents of the states towns and citys that were hit. It is a matter of funding and preparation.... It is hard to predict waht will happen next without a crystal ball, so it is all about response. The response was terrible, but it is now working and people are trying very very hard to help the victim whoever they may be.
