Rumsfeld announces troop increase in Iraq

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has just announced that the USA is about to increase the troop numbers in Iraq. Currently there are less than 325,000 but it is going to be rapidly ramped up to a level which will allow the mission to finally be acomplished. While it is not a pleasant thought to send the military in harms way, it is going to allow the coalition to get things done.

It is my belief that the reason Colin Powell resigned was because his advice to get the deal done in Iraq was to have over 500,000 troops. Lets see if that finally happens.

Yeah it will help, but I don't think it will be the kind of panacea you are talking about. Look at it this way, Sunnis and Shiites are opposed and ready to kill each other over a supposed slight by one prophet against another 2500 odd years ago. How long do you think it will be before the extremists in Iraq will accept and embrace the US? My point is that these guys can hold a grudge that spans generations. Thats one hell of a group to be up against.

It sure is but it will be easier to deal with them with 500,000 troops than the 193,000 or whatever is currently there.

Got to finish what was started..... It will be a quagmire of terror over there if the place isn't contained before retreating.
